Petits Animaux en Perles

By Marie-Claude Burel, published in 2005

No longer available

My copy of this book is a downloaded version (shame on me!), because the original became unavailable just this Christmas. I had it in my Amazon shopping cart, but when I finally could afford it, it was gone :( If it ever becomes available again I'll definitely buy it.

Like the other book by the same author the layout is very practical, with the pattern/chart on the same side as pictures of the animal. The animals are presented with scientific names and a few facts, and they are sorted by class/type, like reptiles & amphibians, birds, rodents, insecteaters, etc.

My favorite pattern is the pheasant:

Lovable Beaded Creatures

"Lovable Beaded Creatures"
By Anja Freese, German original published in 2001
Available on Amazon

This is the 17th beading book I've bought, but the first one in English :) The book has patterns both for beaded animals and some jewelry, like brooches and woven bracelets, though that last section is by far the smallest part. One thing that puzzles me a little is that there is a pattern for a lizard brooch, but there is no picture of the finished item...

The pattern and the picure of the finished animal are shown together on the same page(s), so you don't have to look back and forth in the book. A genious thing about the patterns in this book, that I can't believe no one else has done, is to put a number next to each row that indicates the number of beads in that row. That means you don't have to count the beads, which is especially practical when the pattern is all one color.

All the animals are three-dimensional, and all the patterns are colored. Some of the patterns are:

Bear with honey pot
Owl
Weasel
Fox
Mole
Baby seal
Poison arrow frogs
Octopus
Killer whale
Angelfish
King penguin & chick
Swan
Hummingbird
Anteater
Kangaroo
Butterflies
Cobra
Guinea pig

Perlentiere Natürlich Schön

By Torsten Becker, published in 2006

Available on Amazon

I believe this is Becker's first beading book, and I think that shows in some of the animals. I'm not saying that some patterns are poor, but the animals in his latest book (from 2008) are a bit more developed, and in general more exotic and unusual.

The patterns are collected in a removable booklet stapled in the middle of the book, and all the patterns are colored.

My favorite pattern is the cobra:

Petites Bêtes en Perles

By Marie-Claude Burel, published in 2005

Available on Amazon

My first beading book in French :) Patterns for insects and a few arachnids. All critters are presented both with scientific and common names. Unlike the German pattern books, this book has the patterns on the same pages as the pictures and the written instructions. Very practical.

It also contains a directory of the critters in the beginning of each chapter for easy reference.

My favorite pattern is the praying mantis:

Perlenfiguren zu Weihnachten

"Beaded figures for Christmas"
By Torsten Becker, published in 2008

Available on Amazon

The patterns are collected in a removable booklet stapled in the middle of the book, and all the patterns are colored.

Torsten Becker's figures often have a different expression than those by Ingrid Moras, because he sometimes uses hair/yarn/fur to embellish them.

My favorite patterns are the wise men and their camel:

Perlentiere aus aller Welt

"Beaded animals from all over the world"
By Ingrid Moras, published in 2009

Available on Amazon

Don't be confused by the title, although it's the same as in this post, it's a different book :)

The patterns are collected in a removable booklet stapled in the middle of the book, and all the patterns are colored.

My favorite patterns are the owl and the hedgehog:

Perlensterne & Figuren

"Beaded stars & figures"
By Ingrid Moras, published in 2006

Available on Amazon

The patterns are collected in a removable booklet stapled in the middle of the book. All the patterns are printed pretty big and in color. This is not a book of beaded animals, so it's a little different from the other books I have posted about. There are a few animal patterns, though, but most of them use special beads, often in different shapes and sizes.

My favorite patterns are the snowflakes:

My favorite pattern is the woolly mammoth on the front cover:

Das neue Perlentierebuch

"The new book of beaded animals"
By Ingrid Moras, published in 2004

Available on Amazon

This copy is a Danish translation. The patterns for the animals are in the back of the book, sadly not in color (that's added by me), but they clearly show both the rows of beads and directions for where the wires go.

Sternzeichen Perlentiere

By Ingrid Moras, published in 2004

No longer available

The patterns are printed very big on two huge and unwieldy poster-sized sheets that you remove from the middle of the book. Quite impractical, the sheets take up a lot of space, especially since the patterns often cover several 'pages' and you have to unfold the whole thing too see the whole pattern.

My favorite pattern is the scorpion from the Scorpio starsign:

Ingrid Moras is my favorite creator of beaded animals (and books), this was the first book I bought on the subject, and after making my first critter I was totally hooked :)
